The Czech and Slovak Folklife Festival

Join us for a celebration of rich history and culture by eating authentic food and drink, traditional dancing, and a plentiful supply of baked goods!

Learn the history of Czech and Slovak families within the Prince George County region. Including lots of genealogical history for the curious!

See the vintage farming equipment provided by members of the community and learn from the Immigration gallery of the importance of agriculture to Czech and Slovak ancestry!

The Musuem Gift Shop will be open to supply you with Czech and Slovak cultural artifacts like family cookbooks, Christmas ornaments, history books, children’s activities, T-shirts and much more!

Memorial Day Keynote Speaker – Lt. Col. Jeff Bolander, USMC (Ret.)

We are honored to have Prince George native Lt. Col. Jeff Bolander as our keynote speaker on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m.

Bolander graduated from Prince George High School and continued his education at James Madison University (B.S. in Political Science), where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1980. He also received a M.A. in East Asian Studies from the University of Virginia, a certificate in Mandarin Chinese from National Taiwan University, and a certificate in Business Intelligence from Villanova University.

Throughout his military career, he served in command and staff billets worldwide. Notable assignments include Marine Detachment Commanding Officer, Battleship Iowa (Operation Earnest Will); S-2, Battalion Landing Team 3/5 (Operation Desert Storm); Foreign Area Officer, U.S. Embassy Singapore; military attaché, U.S. Embassy Manila; and Assistant Chief of Staff (G-2), 3d Marine Division. Key military awards and decorations include the Navy-Marine Corps Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Republic of the Philippines Legion of Honor.

In 2022, he received the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club’s Hawksbill Award for exceptional volunteer service. He was appointed by Gov. Glenn Younkin to the James Madison University Board of Visitors in 2023.
